I found my car’s twin! - UPDATE: It sold for US $17,750! Close to what I paid for my car!
When cars get old and semi-rare, there’s no good way to compare two examples on sale. Condition, mods, miles, paint, repairs, etc mean no two cars are alike.
Except mine is really close to this! I have a 145k mile example of an E39 M5 - LeMans Blue/Caramel extended, with the lights, steering and infotainment from 2003. I also have a Dinan exhaust, short shifter and sway bar.

The stock market has tumbled because of the Corona virus. Thanks, Obama!
Not that I have any money to invest there. But also - I don’t have enough to buy and keep a car twin,
But maybe you keep your savings in gold, buried randomly around the Florida swamps or keep cash money stuffed in your mattress? If so, buy this!

Very nice. So I only need to wait 6 more years for the miles on my car to become irrelevant? =)

I’m keeping an eye as I do on every E39 M5

Same. I followed one on the highway for a bit on Tuesday. Such a great looking car, and also just... great.

That generation M5 always makes me think of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2—early high school days for me . The M5 wasn’t the fastest car in the game, but it was modeled to drive with its tail out around turns (who knows/cares how accurate that is to real life), so it was a lot of fun and one of my favorites to use. If I remember right.

Funny how the regular E39 models from that generation do absolutely nothing for me – was more so the case when they were new – but an E39 M5 is pretty much perfection even just to look at.

There are a ton of very subtle differences between the M and non M E39s. Add em all up and the M5 looks amazing and the others look as plain as a camry.

I have driven it in the snow. It is tail happy 3 0 mph+
So I’m guessing it will behave the same if I ever nut up and throw it around the track.

Curious, what do you think a reasonable price is?
This is my attainable dream car, as I've commented to you before. Your color combo is the best.

For a well maintained LeMans Blue on Caramel with this mileage, clean car fax, decent interior and paint?
US $18k - $20k? Anything less is a really good deal.
Especially if it is LeMans Blue on Caramel, or any other rare color (Like Red or White or Green).
I have seen other E39 M5s for sale from $15k to $17k, but they either have high mileage, previous accident or some other issue.
I have to say, I’m am not an expert on the E39 M5 market. I picked mine up in mid-2018 for a similar price in CAD, when the mileage was 123k.
So I can only assume that they haven’t depreciated.

I'm content with my E28 for a while, and probably will get an LSD diff and maybe headers for a bit more punch off the line. But there is a LeMans blue E39 M5 in my area, and I almost literally drool every time I see and hear it.

I have a 2000 green on tan. I have a 2002 540iT also, always thought I wanted the facelift, but the pre is actually pretty great. Only complaint is my tape deck is broken =p
The blue on tan is still my favorite though!

I thought this sold for a very reasonable price. What a great car for under $20k.
